Welcome to The Birdhouse newsletter. It is approximately a 5 minute read.

In today's newsletter, we're going over:

  • Why one wrong data point costs more than the post is worth

  • The hidden rework cycle that quietly burns founders out

  • A two source rule you can put in place before your next post

  • What we check before a piece of content goes live

Build a two source rule before you approve any post

(What) Require every number, stat, or detail in a draft to trace back to a named source before you approve it.

(Why) Once you are the only person catching bad data, you have quietly become the fact checker on your own content, and that is where the burnout starts.

(How) Do these things:

  1. Pull your last 5 posts and circle every number, stat, or client reference in each one.

  2. Cross check each flagged item against your CRM, your notes, or a public source in under 10 minutes per post.

  3. Put a 15 minute weekly review on the calendar instead of correcting on the go

Here are some of the best links I have found since last time I emailed you:

The scary part about inaccuracies

Say a founder pays for a ghostwritten post. The brief takes 10 minutes. The draft comes back in 24 hours. Then one number is wrong: a client name, a growth stat, or a controversial opinion.

That post goes live and completely misrepresents your brand.

It sounds like someone else, people question your authenticity, or it attracts the wrong audience altogether.

Run that math over a month. 20 posts a week, one bad data point in every third post, and you are spending all of your content budget to build the wrong brand.

Where the accuracy breaks down

In our experience running this for founders, bad data almost always comes from the content team working off old notes, outdated bios, or a call transcript nobody re-checked before drafting. The writer is not in your business day to day, so a stat that was true in March gets recycled in July.

The founder catches it because they are the only one who actually knows the number is wrong. That’s the trap.

The fix that actually holds

The fix is not more revisions. It is fewer chances for bad data to enter the draft in the first place. At The Birdhouse, every post gets checked against a source before it goes to the client: your CRM, a recent call note, or a public number you can point to.

And we implement systems not only in the onboarding but also in our weekly & monthly communication to get the right resources from you/your team in an efficient manner.

Lastly, it’s about being resourceful. The average business owner is already doing calls, meetings, and sometimes even content like podcasts, Youtube, or newsletters. These are the most up to date sources of info that we can pull from without ever asking for an extra minute from the client.

The payoff

Being up to date is already a top tier strategy when it comes to capitalizing on trends to get organic reach.

But keeping your data, stories, and opinions fresh are just as important to maintain continuity as your Personal Brand and your audience grows.
